Applying Tattoos

Step by step to the perfect tattoo – in under a minute.

All answers

How do I apply my tattoo correctly?

Done in under a minute:

  1. Choose – Pick a smooth spot, wash it and dry it well. Hairy? Give it a quick shave. No oil-based products on it (cream, lotion, sunscreen).
  2. Unpack – Unpack the tattoo and peel off the clear protective film on the back.
  3. Place – Put the tattoo on your skin with the Tattup logo facing up.
  4. Wet – Dampen the paper with a wet cloth until it’s completely soaked, and press gently.
  5. Peel – Slowly peel off the paper. It still looks light now – that’s normal.
  6. Let it rest – No water and no rubbing for the first 8 hours. On the first day avoid contact as much as you can and wear loose clothes. For the first 2 nights wear something loose to sleep in – especially with a sleeve.
  7. Done! – The full colour develops within 24–48 hours.

How long before an event should I apply my tattoo?

Ideally 1–2 days before. Right after applying you can barely see it – the full colour only shows after 24–48 hours.

How long until my tattoo reaches full color?

After 24–48 hours – that’s how long the ink needs to react with your skin’s amino acids. Usually dark blue to black, a little different depending on your skin.

What color can I expect?

At first barely visible or light blue. Then the ink reacts with your skin’s amino acids: after 24–48 hours it’s dark blue to almost black, a little different depending on your skin.

Can I re-tattoo the same spot once it begins to fade?

Yes, but wait until the old tattoo is completely gone. That’s gentler on your skin.

Does applying a Tattup tattoo hurt?

Nope – not at all! No needles, no stress.

How can I avoid smudging?

It’s usually caused by moisture, cream or hair under the tattoo. Here’s how to get it right:

  • Before: wash the spot and dry it well, shave any hair, no oil-based products on it.
  • Dampen the paper until it’s completely soaked – then the whole design transfers.
  • Don’t move the tattoo once it’s on your skin.
  • First 8 hours: no water, no rubbing, no sports.
  • First day: avoid contact as much as you can, wear loose clothes.
  • First 2 nights: wear something loose to sleep in so nothing transfers to other parts of your body – especially with a sleeve.

Will it stain my bedding or clothes?

Don’t worry: bedding and clothes don’t get stained by a Tattup tattoo – it’s safe.

Still, go easy on your fresh tattoo for the first days. This protects the tattoo, not the fabric:

  • First 8 hours: no water, no rubbing.
  • First day: avoid contact as much as you can, wear loose clothes.
  • First 2 nights: wear something loose to sleep in – especially with a sleeve. While the colour is still fresh, rubbing from your blanket or clothes can smudge the tattoo or make it lighter.

Bedding and clothes are safe – but while the tattoo is fresh, it can transfer onto other parts of your body if it lies on them. So for the first nights, sleep so the tattooed spot doesn’t press against other skin. Loose clothes help.

Can I use a tattoo more than once?

No. Each tattoo is for one application. For the same look later, simply use a new one.

How long does a Tattup tattoo last?

Up to 2 weeks. By then the top layer of your skin has renewed itself and the tattoo is gone.

How to make it last longer:

  • First 8 hours: no water, no rubbing.
  • First day: avoid contact as much as you can, wear loose clothes.
  • First 2 nights: wear something loose to sleep in – especially with a sleeve.
  • Choose spots with little friction.
  • From 48 hours on, once the colour has fully developed: apply a light, oil-free lotion daily.
  • Don’t scrub or exfoliate.

Our guide shows how long it lasts on each part of the body.

We suggest a hair-free zone to reduce the risk of smudging.
